Pittsburgh, PA – Residents across western Pennsylvania are urged to prepare for a wintry mix of rain and snow set to arrive Wednesday evening, followed by strong winds and snow showers on Thursday. The National Weather Service warns that Thursday’s morning commute on major highways, including I-79 and US-422, could be hazardous.
According to the NWS, precipitation will begin Wednesday night as rain and snow, transitioning to all snow after midnight. Gusts of up to 30 mph are expected to accompany the storm, creating low visibility and slick roads. Drivers are advised to slow down, keep extra distance between vehicles, and monitor updates for road conditions.
Thursday’s high temperature is forecast to reach only 30°F, with snow showers persisting throughout the day. Additional snowfall is possible Thursday night, and wind chills could dip below 20°F. Residents are encouraged to check heating systems, stock emergency supplies, and use caution if traveling.
Looking ahead, Friday will bring partly sunny skies with a high of 32°F, offering a brief reprieve. However, another system may develop over the weekend, with snow chances returning Saturday into Sunday.
Western Pennsylvanians should remain alert for updated forecasts and plan ahead for potentially icy conditions.
