Fort Wayne, IN – A winter storm system is expected to bring accumulating snow to northern Indiana late Thursday, with potential travel disruptions into Friday morning. Snowfall totals between 2 to 3 inches are likely across the Fort Wayne region, prompting motorists to prepare for slick and icy conditions, especially along major routes like I-69 and U.S. 30.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow is expected to begin late Thursday evening and intensify overnight, with temperatures dropping into the low 30s. Winds will remain light but visibility could decrease due to steady snowfall. This weather system is likely to impact the Friday morning commute, particularly for drivers in and around Fort Wayne, Warsaw, and South Bend.

Thursday will begin calm with cloudy skies and a high near 34 degrees. Light snow flurries may begin as early as 7 p.m. Thursday, increasing in coverage after midnight. NWS forecasters predict the heaviest snowfall will occur between midnight and 8 a.m. Friday. Motorists are advised to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check updated road conditions before heading out.

Looking ahead, temperatures will drop further through the weekend. Friday’s high will reach only 34 degrees, with light snow lingering early. By Saturday, lake-effect snow showers could bring localized additional accumulation, particularly near La Porte and Michigan City. Temperatures will dip into the low 20s Saturday, with wind chills making it feel even colder.

Sunday offers a break in snowfall, with clear skies but frigid temperatures. Highs will only reach 26 degrees, and overnight lows could fall into the teens. Those venturing outdoors should dress in layers and take precautions against the cold.
