Thunderstorms to Hit Northern Illinois Overnight, I-80 Travelers Take Caution

Chicago, IL – Northern Illinois is set to experience scattered showers and thunderstorms this evening and overnight, impacting regions including the I-80 corridor. The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued an update detailing the expected weather patterns.

According to the National Weather Service, showers will become widely scattered between 6 PM and 11 PM CDT, with a slight chance of thunderstorms. These storms are anticipated to be isolated if they do develop. The forecast predicts light to moderate rainfall during this period.

Numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected to increase in frequency overnight, from roughly 11 PM to 4 AM CDT. This timeframe holds a higher probability, with 40-50% of the area expected to experience scattered thunderstorms. Some of these storms may bring gusty winds and small hail, although strong or severe storms are not currently expected.

The rain and thunderstorms are likely to affect travel along I-80, with moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall rates anticipated. Commuters and residents should stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions, particularly during the evening and overnight hours.
