Springfield, IL – Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will persist in southern Illinois today, as a cold front and upper-level low pressure system keep conditions unsettled south of Interstate 72. A 50% chance of rain and storms is expected to continue throughout the afternoon and evening, with the weather becoming breezy as well.

According to the National Weather Service, dry conditions will take over by Friday, with pleasant, seasonable temperatures expected across the state. Highs will range from the mid-60s to low 70s today and Friday before rising into the mid-70s to low 80s by the weekend. The clear skies should make for a pleasant Mother’s Day weekend, with mostly sunny days Saturday through Monday.

Thunderstorms will return next week, however, with a slight chance of showers and storms arriving again by Monday. For those with outdoor plans over the weekend, the weather is expected to be ideal, with highs near 70 today and Friday, and in the 70s to low 80s Saturday through Monday.

Stay alert for possible weather changes as storms may return early next week.
