According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, north winds of 20-30 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, are expected to develop late Sunday and persist into Monday morning. The strongest winds will impact areas along U.S. Route 50 before gradually subsiding Monday afternoon.
Temperatures will plummet behind the front, with Monday’s high expected to reach only 45 degrees, a stark contrast to Sunday’s forecasted high of 64. Overnight lows Monday will dip to the mid-20s, making for a chilly start to Thanksgiving week.
The forecast for the week remains cool and dry, with Tuesday’s high climbing to 51 degrees under partly sunny skies. Thanksgiving Day is expected to be partly cloudy, with temperatures near 43 degrees and lows dropping into the 20s overnight.
Motorists traveling through the region should use caution Sunday night and Monday morning due to strong crosswinds along highways. Secure outdoor items such as holiday decorations and trash bins to prevent wind damage.
