Billings, MT – Travelers across Montana should prepare for changing conditions this week as isolated snow showers and freezing temperatures make way for midweek sunshine before returning snow threatens Thanksgiving plans.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, light snow showers could develop Tuesday afternoon, creating slick conditions on highways like I-90 and I-94. Wednesday will bring mostly sunny skies and a high near 37 degrees, offering a brief break for holiday travelers.

By Thanksgiving Day, snow is expected to return, with a 40% chance of accumulation before noon and highs near 29 degrees. Winds could reach six mph, creating additional concerns for drivers on key routes, especially in higher elevations and open plains.

Looking ahead, Friday will remain cold with a high of 31 degrees and lingering snow showers. Saturday and Sunday are predicted to be mostly cloudy with highs around 40 degrees, offering some relief. Overnight lows throughout the week will dip into the teens, increasing the risk of icy roads each morning.

For those planning Thanksgiving travel, caution is advised. Drivers should check road conditions on Montana’s Department of Transportation website and pack an emergency kit, including blankets and water.

Be sure to allow extra travel time, particularly on major roadways like I-90 and I-15. Stay updated with local weather alerts as conditions evolve.
