Jackson, MS – Thanksgiving plans across Mississippi may face interruptions as rain and thunderstorms are forecasted for Thursday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Areas along I-55, including Jackson, are expected to see the heaviest rainfall in the afternoon and evening.

According to the NWS, isolated storms could develop late Wednesday night, with rain likely persisting into Thanksgiving Day. Some storms may bring heavy downpours and gusty winds, particularly in central and eastern Mississippi. High temperatures are forecasted to reach the mid-60s, with lows dropping to the 40s. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather conditions and drive cautiously, especially during peak travel hours on Thanksgiving.

Looking ahead, the NWS predicts a significant drop in temperatures over the weekend. Overnight lows from Saturday through Monday are expected to dip into the upper 20s to low 30s, triggering frost and freeze warnings across much of the state. This could damage unprotected vegetation and pose a risk to outdoor pipes.

On Wednesday morning, dense fog along I-20 and I-55 reduced visibility to less than a quarter-mile in some areas. Drivers should use low-beam headlights and allow extra travel time. The fog is expected to lift by mid-morning, but lingering impacts may cause delays during early commutes.

Mississippi residents should prepare for fluctuating conditions as the holiday week progresses. Stay updated with local forecasts and take precautions during hazardous conditions.
