East Grand Forks, MN – Thanksgiving snow will linger into Friday, bringing frigid wind chills and drifting snow to northwest Minnesota. Travelers along Highway 2 should prepare for slippery roads and blowing snow, especially west of the Red River Valley.
According to the National Weather Service, light snow is expected through Thursday afternoon, with gusty northwest winds increasing by evening. Wind chills will plummet as low as -16°F overnight, making outdoor exposure potentially hazardous. Additional snow accumulation will remain light, but gusts up to 26 mph could lead to whiteout conditions in rural areas.
Black Friday will bring clear skies but little relief from the cold. Highs will struggle to reach 8°F, with persistent winds adding a biting chill to the air. Anyone heading out for early shopping should dress in layers and limit time outdoors.
The weekend offers some sunshine, but temperatures will remain well below freezing. Saturday’s high will hit 11°F, with winds calming slightly by evening. Sunday will see slightly warmer conditions, with highs near 14°F, though wind speeds could pick up again.
Residents and travelers are urged to keep emergency kits in their vehicles and monitor updated forecasts. Those planning long trips should remain cautious of icy stretches and limited visibility along highways.
