Billings, MT – Snow showers are making travel difficult across parts of Montana this Thanksgiving morning, particularly along I-90. Travelers should plan for light snow accumulations, icy roads, and reduced visibility, with heavier snowfall possible in localized bands.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Billings, light snow will continue through Thursday morning, tapering off east of Billings before noon. Central regions will see clearing skies by afternoon. While most areas will receive less than an inch of snow, bands of heavier precipitation could lead to 1-2 inches in spots. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously and allow extra travel time.
By Thursday night, conditions will stabilize, with lows dipping to 17°F and light northeast winds. For Black Friday, shoppers can expect dry weather but brisk temperatures, with highs near 29°F under mostly cloudy skies. Weekend travelers can look forward to partly sunny skies Saturday and Sunday, with highs rebounding to 39°F.
Looking ahead to next week, Monday brings milder conditions, with highs reaching 44°F under clear skies. However, snow-packed roads and freezing temperatures Thursday could linger into the holiday weekend, making safe driving a priority.
For travelers along I-90 and surrounding areas, the NWS recommends packing winter survival gear, monitoring local forecasts, and delaying nonessential travel until conditions improve.
