Lubbock, TX — Motorists in Lubbock should use caution as icy roads remain a hazard through Friday morning due to lingering snow and freezing conditions. Temperatures are expected to remain near freezing early, with strong northerly winds creating icy patches across South Plains highways, including U.S. Route 87.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. Friday. Drivers should anticipate slippery roads and limited visibility during the early commute. Wind gusts up to 20 mph will maintain cold wind chills in the low 20s throughout the day.
Friday will gradually clear as skies turn sunny by midday, allowing temperatures to rise to 38°F. Lighter winds are forecasted by late afternoon. Residents can look forward to milder weather on Saturday, with sunny skies and a high of 55°F.
The weekend will bring improved travel conditions, with lows around 28°F Saturday night. Sunday offers more sunshine and highs near 46°F, though temperatures will drop to 22°F overnight. Early next week, highs are expected to approach 48°F by Monday and 54°F on Tuesday, with mostly clear skies persisting.
The NWS advises residents to stay vigilant for icy conditions during the Friday morning commute and to check road updates through 511. Frosty mornings will linger into early next week before temperatures begin warming steadily.
