Corpus Christi, Texas – Strong southeasterly winds are stirring up hazardous conditions along the Coastal Bend Friday, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph and prompting driving and boating advisories through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for much of South Texas, excluding the barrier islands. Sustained winds between 20 and 30 mph, with peak gusts of 40 mph, could create dangerous driving conditions—especially for high-profile vehicles—and pose a threat to unsecured outdoor objects.
Counties under the advisory include Nueces, Kleberg, Jim Wells, and Bee, among others. Over the water, a Small Craft Advisory remains in place through Saturday evening from Port Aransas to the Matagorda Shipping Channel, where seas of 5 to 7 feet and gusty winds up to 30 knots are expected.
Boaters should avoid open water if possible, particularly inexperienced mariners or operators of smaller vessels. Bays are expected to remain choppy with visibility and handling reduced.
Wind and marine advisories may extend depending on evolving conditions, with updates expected from the NWS later Friday evening.
