Houston, Texas – A sweltering weekend is underway across Southeast Texas, with cities from College Station to Galveston bracing for highs in the mid to upper 90s and dangerously elevated heat stress levels.
According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, a major heat risk is in effect through Sunday evening, with peak heat indices ranging from 103°F to 107°F. The Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT), a key indicator of heat stress on the human body, is rated at Level 4 out of 5 — signaling “high” danger for outdoor activity.
Houston, Katy, Conroe, and Livingston are all expected to hit maximum temperatures between 94°F and 96°F on Sunday. Coastal areas like Galveston will be only marginally cooler, peaking near 86°F. The risk of heat-related illness is significant, particularly for those spending prolonged time outside between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit time outdoors, and avoid relying solely on fans. If air conditioning is available, it should be used. Those without AC should seek cooling shelters or public spaces with climate control.
The high heat pattern is expected to linger through Sunday, with advisories potentially continuing into early next week.
