Lubbock, Texas – Warm, partly cloudy skies will dominate the Rolling Plains today, but isolated showers and thunderstorms could develop by late afternoon, mainly impacting rural areas east of Lubbock.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, the chance for severe storms remains low, though brief downpours and lightning are possible, especially near Aspermont and Childress. Rainfall totals are expected to stay below a tenth of an inch. Winds will be out of the south-southeast at 5 to 10 mph, adding mild breeze to an otherwise calm summer day.

High temperatures will range from 79°F in Aspermont to 83°F in Childress, with Lubbock, Brownfield, and Friona all peaking at 82°F. Drivers are advised to watch for slick roads during any isolated storm bursts, particularly in the early evening.

While conditions aren’t expected to escalate, residents in the Rolling Plains should stay weather-aware, especially if outdoor plans extend into the evening hours. More stable conditions are expected to return overnight.
