Abilene, Texas – Parts of West Central Texas are enjoying a break from early May heat, with highs Sunday topping out in the upper 70s to low 80s—roughly 5 to 10 degrees cooler than average for this time of year.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, light southeast winds around 10 mph will persist through the afternoon, with occasional gusts near 20 mph possible. Sunny skies will dominate early, though increasing cloud cover is expected by evening, especially west of Abilene.

Abilene is projected to reach 79°F this afternoon, with similar conditions across Ballinger (80°F), San Angelo (77°F), and Brady (79°F). Cooler readings in the mid-70s are likely farther north in places like Haskell and Sweetwater.

Drivers should anticipate glare during the day and shifting visibility as clouds roll in later. While no storms are in the immediate outlook, the added moisture could hint at unsettled conditions heading into the workweek.

Residents are advised to enjoy the mild temperatures while they last and stay updated with the latest NWS updates, especially as pattern changes loom for Monday and Tuesday. Next briefing expected by early Monday morning from NWS San Angelo.
