Houston, TX – A wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet, and possible snow is forecast to hit the Houston area Monday night, with temperatures dropping below freezing. The National Weather Service warns that bridges and overpasses could become dangerous as ice forms quickly.

According to the National Weather Service, the wintry mix may begin late Monday evening, continuing into Tuesday morning, with temperatures plummeting to a low of 28°F Monday night and only reaching a high of 34°F Tuesday. Motorists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and be cautious on icy roads, particularly elevated structures such as the Gulf Freeway (I-45) and Sam Houston Tollway (Beltway 8).

Residents should prepare now by equipping their vehicles with essentials, including blankets, a flashlight, and an ice scraper, in case of emergencies. Power outages could also occur due to freezing conditions, so stocking up on food, water, and batteries is advised.

Looking ahead, Sunday will remain sunny with a high of 44°F, followed by increasing clouds Sunday night and a low near 29°F. Tuesday night temperatures are expected to fall further, reaching 22°F under partly cloudy skies.

The extended forecast shows improving conditions midweek, with sunny skies returning by Wednesday and highs near 41°F. However, the cold weather will persist, so precautions should remain in place throughout the week.
