Lubbock, Texas – Gusty winds and scattered storm chances will keep much of the South Plains cool and cloudy Friday morning, with temperatures struggling to break out of the 60s.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, storms may persist through late morning, especially in areas off the Caprock. Winds from the northeast will range from 10 to 20 mph, reinforcing the cooler pattern across the region.

Lubbock is expected to top out near 67°F, with similar highs in Plainview (66°F), Brownfield (68°F), and Friona (64°F). Childress could be slightly warmer, reaching 70°F. Cloud cover will linger, limiting daytime warming and contributing to a damp, breezy feel across the High Plains.

Travelers should remain alert for slick roads and low visibility in areas experiencing showers. If thunder roars, move indoors—lightning remains a hazard even with weak storm systems. Residents are also advised to secure loose outdoor items due to gusty winds.

Storm activity should taper off by midday, but skies will remain mostly cloudy through the afternoon. Additional updates are expected if storm development lingers beyond the late-morning window.
