San Antonio, Texas – Friday morning’s commute could get slippery across San Antonio, with thunderstorms likely to roll in before sunrise and continue through midday. Some areas could pick up a half-inch or more of rain, raising the risk for minor flooding—especially along low-lying spots on Loop 410 and near I-35.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are most likely between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday, with a 60% chance of rain during that window. Winds will be light from the northeast at 5 to 10 mph, and roads may stay slick through early afternoon.

Areas around downtown San Antonio, Balcones Heights, and Castle Hills should plan for extra drive time. Flashing lights at intersections, localized ponding, and reduced visibility are all possible. If thunder roars during the morning rush, TXDOT recommends drivers slow down and allow extra braking distance on major arteries like Loop 1604 and US-281.

Saturday and Sunday bring drier, hotter air. Highs both days will reach the upper 80s under mostly sunny skies. East winds shift to the south, signaling a return to summer-like heat by Monday.

Here’s a look ahead:

  • Saturday: Mostly clear with a high of 88°F
  • Sunday: Slight storm chance after 1 p.m., high near 93°F
  • Monday: Partly cloudy, summer temps continue with a high near 94°F
  • Tuesday: Mostly sunny and hotter with highs near 97°F
  • Wednesday: Dry and warm, high around 97°F
