Lubbock, TX – Chilly post-frontal conditions are sweeping across the South Plains, with temperatures plunging into the mid-30s overnight Wednesday into Thursday. The National Weather Service predicts clear skies and light winds, but residents should prepare for brisk early morning commutes.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, Thursday morning will bring temperatures as low as 36 degrees, with frost likely in some areas. Motorists traveling along Loop 289 and US Route 87 should exercise caution due to potentially frosty surfaces. The day will warm up quickly under sunny skies, reaching a high of 63 degrees by the afternoon.
The cooling trend follows a cold front that has left much of the region under calm but colder weather patterns. Winds will remain light, shifting southward later in the day, signaling warmer conditions heading into the weekend.
Thursday night will stay clear with lows again in the mid-30s. Friday looks more comfortable with highs reaching 65 degrees. By Saturday, temperatures will climb further, peaking at 71 degrees under sunny skies. Sunday and Monday will bring even warmer conditions, with highs near 75 and 69 degrees, respectively.
Residents should take precautions Thursday morning by bundling up and allowing extra time to clear frost from vehicles. Farmers and gardeners are advised to cover sensitive plants overnight as temperatures dip.
For those planning weekend outdoor activities, the warming trend and sunny skies provide an excellent opportunity to enjoy the region’s parks and trails.
