Lubbock, Texas – Severe storms could shake up West Texas starting Friday, with large hail, strong winds, and flooding rains expected across the Lubbock area.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, a Hazardous Weather Outlook remains in effect for the South Plains, Rolling Plains, and far southern Texas Panhandle. Thunderstorms are likely to develop Friday afternoon, bringing hail up to golfball size and wind gusts near 60 mph. These storms could impact areas along U.S. Highway 84 and throughout Lubbock, Parmer, Swisher, Hall, and Kent counties.

Residents should avoid unnecessary travel during active storms and stay weather-aware as conditions change. Flash flooding is possible, especially Sunday into Monday, when heavy rain chances rise significantly. Emergency managers urge locals to check sump pumps, clean gutters, and monitor low-water crossings before the weekend.

Storm activity may continue into early next week, with a heightened risk of localized flooding in the Caprock and northern Rolling Plains. Spotter activation may be needed in the coming days due to the increasing storm threat.
