Fort Worth will sweat through one more blast of late-summer heat Friday before storms threaten travel and football games into Saturday. Temperatures will reach near 100 by late afternoon, with the heat index climbing as high as 103.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, storm chances increase after 7 p.m. Friday, especially along the I-35 corridor. A 40 percent chance of thunderstorms may bring heavy rain, gusty winds, and lightning during evening events, including high school football. Drivers are urged to watch for slick roads and possible delays.

Saturday begins with lingering showers through 10 a.m., then clears into partly sunny skies and a cooler high of 79. Tailgaters and outdoor event planners should expect damp grounds early but improving conditions by midday.

Another round of rain could return Sunday evening, bringing scattered thunderstorms before midnight. Most of Sunday stays warm but manageable with a high near 84.

By Monday, conditions turn dry and mostly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 80s. The trend of clearer skies and lighter winds continues through midweek, giving North Texans a break from both storms and extreme heat.

Residents should plan travel carefully Friday evening, charge devices in case of outages, and stay hydrated during the afternoon heat. Storm warnings remain possible through late Sunday.
