Fort Worth, Texas – A flood watch remains in effect for Fort Worth and much of north-central Texas as heavy rain and thunderstorms move through the region today. The National Weather Service has issued a warning through late tonight, with concerns over rising rivers and streams as up to three inches of rain could fall, potentially leading to localized flooding.
The flood watch began at 7 a.m. CDT and will continue until 1 a.m. CDT on Wednesday, as storms bring heavy rainfall and possible severe conditions across Fort Worth and surrounding counties. The National Weather Service has warned of excessive runoff in flood-prone areas, urging residents to monitor conditions closely. These storms are expected to continue throughout the day, with wind gusts up to 20 mph and isolated rainfall amounts exceeding five inches in some locations.
Residents should avoid driving in areas where flooding is possible and be cautious of rapidly changing conditions, especially in low-lying areas and near creeks and streams. Areas such as Denton, Plano, and Grapevine could see heavy rainfall as well, with flooding concerns stretching as far east as Tyler and Jacksonville.
The risk of storms continues this afternoon, with a 90% chance of rainfall and potential for further thunderstorm activity. By late tonight, the weather is expected to calm, but any flooding that occurs may still present dangers in the coming hours.
