Fort Worth, Texas – Urban flooding could cripple traffic across North Texas Thursday as a slow-moving system dumps up to 7 inches of rain.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a Flood Watch remains in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday for Central and North Texas, including the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Rainfall totals between 2 to 4 inches are expected, with localized amounts as high as 7 inches—especially near low-lying and poor-drainage areas.

Excessive runoff could lead to dangerous driving conditions on I-35, I-20, and U.S. 287, with standing water likely on surface roads in Fort Worth, Arlington, and Mansfield. Commuters are urged to avoid non-essential travel and monitor real-time conditions. Flash flooding of small creeks, streams, and underpasses is likely.

Emergency management teams across Tarrant, Dallas, and Parker counties are preparing for potential road closures and delays. Residents in flood-prone zones should charge phones, gather supplies, and review evacuation routes.

By Thursday afternoon, a second wave of thunderstorms is expected to intensify rainfall. Rain chances taper off into early Friday, but isolated showers may linger.

More alerts may follow if conditions worsen.
