Fort Worth, TX – A powerful Arctic cold front is set to bring dangerously low temperatures to North and Central Texas starting Tuesday evening. An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect from Tuesday night through Thursday morning, with wind chill values dropping as low as -10°F.

According to the National Weather Service Fort Worth, temperatures will begin falling below freezing Tuesday afternoon, with the coldest wind chills expected early Wednesday and Thursday mornings. The affected areas include the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Waco, Killeen, and surrounding regions.

The prolonged freezing temperatures pose risks to people, pets, pipes, and plants. Authorities urge residents to:

Bring pets indoors

Protect outdoor pipes by allowing faucets to drip

Dress in warm, layered clothing

Check on neighbors and vulnerable individuals

Light ice accumulations are possible if precipitation lingers as temperatures drop. The coldest conditions are expected between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday, with subfreezing temperatures lasting through Friday.

Residents should complete all cold-weather preparations by Tuesday morning. For the latest updates, visit weather.gov/fortworth.
