Houston, TX – Southeast Texas residents should prepare for heavy rain and thunderstorms expected to disrupt Christmas Eve travel plans. The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts showers starting Tuesday afternoon, increasing into the evening and continuing into early Wednesday.

According to the NWS, these storms may bring localized flooding, especially along poorly drained roadways such as the Gulf Freeway (I-45) and Highway 59. Rainfall could intensify late Tuesday, with some areas seeing up to two inches. Motorists should remain cautious and allow extra time if traveling.

Looking ahead, Saturday will be calm and sunny, with highs near 58°F and lows around 41°F. Sunday will bring slightly warmer temperatures, peaking at 63°F with lows near 53°F. Monday continues the warming trend, hitting 72°F, but clouds will gather ahead of Tuesday’s storm.

On Tuesday, Christmas Eve storms are expected to develop by noon, accompanied by gusty winds and cooler conditions. Highs will reach 73°F before dropping into the 50s by nightfall. Christmas Day itself looks drier, with only a 20% chance of lingering showers before noon and sunny skies returning by afternoon.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and prepare for potential travel delays. Keep emergency kits and rain gear handy, and avoid flooded roads. The NWS advises keeping an eye on forecasts as conditions may change.
