Amarillo, TX – Melting snow from Friday has refrozen overnight, creating dangerous patches of black ice on Amarillo roads and walkways. Authorities are urging drivers to use extra caution, especially on bridges and overpasses.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Amarillo, black ice remains difficult to see and poses significant hazards. Wind chills as low as 11°F add to safety concerns this weekend. Motorists should reduce speeds, allow extra stopping time, and avoid sudden braking.

Temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 40s by Sunday afternoon, reducing ice hazards. However, nighttime lows will refreeze remaining moisture. Winds up to 25 mph will also contribute to reduced visibility.

Looking ahead, sunny conditions are expected through Wednesday, with daytime highs ranging from 43°F to 49°F. Stay updated on weather conditions by checking weather.gov and drive carefully.
