According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, severe weather is likely to impact the region Thursday afternoon and evening. The greatest risks include large hail, heavy rainfall, wind gusts over 50 mph, and a tornado or two. Spotter activation may be required, particularly during the evening commute hours.

Communities from Dumas to Canyon should secure outdoor items, stay weather-aware, and avoid unnecessary travel during storms. Drivers on I-40 should expect visibility issues and possible delays, especially near downtown Amarillo and west toward Vega.

Thursday night brings continued storm chances, with additional thunderstorms possible each day through Monday. While the widespread severe risk remains low after Thursday, isolated strong cells can’t be ruled out.
