Lampasas, Texas – A tornado with peak winds of 110 mph struck northeast Burnet County on Wednesday afternoon, injuring one person and leaving behind a 3-mile-long trail of damage near County Road 223, just east of Lampasas.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, the EF-1 tornado touched down at 4:29 p.m. CDT and remained on the ground until 4:54 p.m., carving a half-mile-wide path through rural areas between Lampasas and Kempner. Survey teams confirmed the injury and reported moderate structural damage in the tornado’s path.

Emergency crews responded quickly, but power outages and debris briefly disrupted access to portions of FM 580 and surrounding roads. Residents are advised to stay alert for any additional hazards as cleanup continues. Officials recommend checking on neighbors, especially in remote areas, and avoiding downed power lines.

A second tornado touched down later that evening at approximately 5:15 p.m. near Briggs. That twister remained over open land and was rated EF-U, meaning damage could not be fully assessed. No injuries or deaths were reported from that event.

Severe weather threats in Central Texas have since diminished, but the National Weather Service warns that additional surveys and updates may follow.
