Fort Worth, Texas – A line of severe thunderstorms could rattle northwest and far north Texas through 8 a.m. Wednesday, bringing the threat of tornadoes, large hail, and damaging wind gusts overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 8 a.m. CDT April 30 for more than a dozen counties, including Wichita Falls, Bowie, Decatur, Sherman, and Paris. Storms will continue moving in from west Texas overnight, with wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail reaching two inches in diameter.
Cities like Graham, Mineral Wells, and Lawton are also in the threat zone, along with parts of southern Oklahoma such as Ardmore and Ada. The Metroplex, including Dallas and Fort Worth, is not expected to see storms until later Wednesday. A couple of tornadoes are possible, particularly in the northwestern counties.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and avoid travel overnight if possible. With over a million people in the watch area, power outages and tree damage could impact morning commutes and school operations.
Storms may shift into central and eastern Texas later Wednesday. Additional watches or warnings are possible as the system progresses.
