Austin, TX – Residents across Austin and South-Central Texas should prepare for a rollercoaster of weather this Thanksgiving week, with fluctuating temperatures and changing wind patterns impacting travel and outdoor plans. Wednesday will bring a significant warmup, but a cold front arriving on Thanksgiving Day could lower temperatures again through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Austin/San Antonio, today will stay partly cloudy with highs near 67°F. Calm winds will shift southward by Wednesday, pushing temperatures to a warm 82°F. However, Thanksgiving Day will introduce a breezy north wind, dropping highs to 64°F and potentially disrupting outdoor gatherings.

The holiday weekend looks cooler but pleasant. Friday’s high will reach only 62°F under mostly sunny skies, with Saturday warming slightly to 68°F. Overnight lows will hover in the low to mid-40s, so residents planning evening travel or events should bring warm layers.

Travelers along I-35 should remain cautious, especially Wednesday evening, when gusty south winds could reach up to 25 mph. Thanksgiving Day travelers may also face delays due to cooler, breezier conditions.

Locals hosting outdoor Thanksgiving events should consider windbreaks or indoor alternatives, particularly in areas north of Austin, where cooler temperatures may feel more pronounced.
