San Antonio, Texas – Storms are brewing across South Central Texas as a classic spring pattern sets up a volatile mix of heat and thunderstorms starting Thursday. Drivers along I-35 in San Antonio could face scattered showers and isolated downpours during the afternoon commute.

According to the National Weather Service, rain chances rise to 20 percent by 1 p.m. Thursday, with stronger storm potential by Friday and into the weekend. Highs will climb near 92°F Thursday before dipping slightly Friday with more widespread storm activity likely after 1 p.m. Winds will shift southeast between 5 to 10 mph, increasing storm movement across Bexar, Comal, and Guadalupe counties.

Residents should prepare for rapid weather changes—especially from Friday through Saturday night, when thunderstorm chances reach 70 percent. Lightning, heavy rain, and localized street flooding are possible. Limit outdoor plans, charge electronic devices, and avoid driving through high water areas during storms. Winds could gust up to 25 mph.

The weekend will offer little relief. Friday night brings continued storms with lows around 67°F. Saturday will reach 79°F, but showers and storms remain likely into the evening. A brief lull may come Sunday, though Monday and Tuesday show a 30-60 percent chance of renewed thunderstorm activity.

Five-Day Forecast Snapshot (May 1–May 6):

  • Saturday: 50% chance of storms, high 79°F
