Fort Worth, Texas – Damaging thunderstorms are expected to sweep across North and Central Texas today, bringing threats of large hail, isolated tornadoes, and flash flooding that could disrupt travel and power through late Wednesday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the storm system will arrive in waves, starting as early as 5 a.m. in the northwest counties and peaking between 7 a.m. and noon across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including Denton, Mineral Wells, and Weatherford. Severe activity will shift southeastward through the day, impacting Cleburne, Ennis, and Corsicana by early afternoon and reaching Temple, Palestine, and Groesbeck between 6 p.m. and midnight.
Drivers should avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm windows and remain alert for flash flooding on rural highways and urban roadways like I-35E and U.S. 287. Winds over 60 mph could down trees and power lines, while hailstones up to two inches are possible in storm cores.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and review severe weather plans, especially in mobile homes or areas prone to flooding.
Severe thunderstorm and tornado watches may be issued throughout the day. Additional updates will follow as the storm tracks southeast.
