Houston, Texas – Damaging winds and large hail threaten Southeast Texas through 7 a.m. Monday as a line of intense thunderstorms sweeps across the region, including the Houston Metro, just ahead of the morning rush hour.

According to the National Weather Service Houston-Galveston office, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for most of Southeast and Central Texas, extending into parts of southwest Louisiana. Storms have the potential to produce wind gusts up to 75 mph and hail up to 2 inches in diameter.

Cities under the watch include Houston, College Station, Beaumont, and Victoria. The system is moving into the Piney Woods and could cause isolated power outages, fallen trees, and hazardous driving conditions on I-10, US-59, and other major routes. Houston ISD and area emergency managers are monitoring the situation.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge phones and devices, and have multiple ways to receive warnings overnight. Travel should be avoided during periods of intense wind or hail.

The thunderstorm line is expected to move out of the region by mid-morning, but additional watches or warnings may follow if conditions persist.
