Dallas, Texas – North Texans should brace for dangerous storms this afternoon as the threat for strong tornadoes, very large hail, and damaging winds intensifies across the Dallas-Fort Worth area and the broader ArkLaTex region.
According to the NOAA Storm Prediction Center, a Level 3 “Enhanced Risk” zone covers much of north-central Texas, southeast Oklahoma, southwest Arkansas, and northwest Louisiana through Wednesday evening. The highest concern lies along a corridor from Fort Worth and Denton to Tyler and Texarkana, where ingredients could align for one or more strong tornadoes and hail larger than golf balls.
Cities under heightened alert include Dallas, Waco, Paris, and Shreveport. The severe weather window is expected to open by mid-afternoon and persist into the evening hours, with scattered supercell storms capable of rapid intensification. Gusts over 70 mph are also possible, especially in bowing storm segments moving eastward.
Residents are urged to avoid non-essential travel after 3 p.m., secure outdoor objects, and ensure phones are fully charged. Those in mobile homes or flood-prone areas should identify safer shelter options now.
Severe weather watches are likely to be issued by early afternoon. Stay tuned to local warnings and be prepared to take immediate action if a tornado warning is issued. Additional updates are expected later today.
