San Angelo, Texas – Parts of West Central Texas could face dangerous storms Sunday evening, with the most intense weather expected between Sweetwater and Brownwood, where hail the size of softballs and hurricane-force winds may strike.
According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, a moderate risk (Level 4 of 5) for severe weather has been issued for this region. The threat window runs from 6 p.m. Sunday through 3 a.m. Monday. Communities in and around Haskell, Abilene, and Sweetwater are especially vulnerable to large hail, damaging wind gusts up to 80 mph, and isolated tornadoes. Areas farther south, including San Angelo and Brady, may see more isolated and hit-or-miss storms.
Storm development is expected to begin late afternoon near the Red River and spread southeast. A severe squall line could form and move quickly through the region. The most dangerous cells may hit during peak travel hours, prompting safety concerns for drivers and residents.
Residents should avoid unnecessary travel, secure outdoor items, and have multiple ways to receive warnings overnight. Keep phones charged and shelter plans ready in case tornado warnings are issued.
