West Central Texas residents should brace for severe thunderstorms forecasted to impact the region Friday. The National Weather Service (NWS) in San Angelo has issued warnings of large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall likely to impact travel and outdoor safety. Residents are advised to secure loose items and stay indoors, as storms may bring wind speeds between 60 to 70 mph and hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter. There is also a low probability of isolated tornadoes in southeastern areas.
According to the NWS, these storms are expected to bring intense rainfall with potential flash flooding across areas including Callahan, Coke, Fisher, and surrounding counties. A Flood Watch is in effect from Thursday evening through Friday afternoon. The NWS warns of possible flooding in rivers, low-lying regions, and poorly drained urban areas. The expected rainfall amounts range from 1 to 3 inches, with localized areas potentially receiving up to 4 inches or more, creating hazardous travel conditions.
Friday’s weather outlook also includes lingering showers with temperatures near 67 degrees, gradually clearing overnight. Looking ahead to Veterans Day weekend, West Central Texas should experience a reprieve from severe weather. Saturday and Sunday are expected to bring sunny skies with daytime highs in the mid-70s and calm conditions, offering an ideal setting for outdoor activities.
Local residents are urged to monitor updates, avoid flood-prone roads, and prepare for the likelihood of severe weather. Stay updated through NWS alerts and local news to ensure safety through Friday’s storms and as conditions improve into the weekend.
