Houston, Texas – Severe thunderstorms capable of producing hail and damaging winds are expected to sweep through southeast Texas Thursday afternoon and evening, with the highest threat window from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston-Galveston, storms may reach severe levels especially north of the I-10 corridor, including cities like College Station, Livingston, and Crockett. Areas from Houston to Galveston are under a marginal risk, with the potential for isolated heavy downpours and wind gusts topping 60 mph.

Residents in Brazos, Walker, and Polk counties should prepare for rapidly changing conditions and stay alert for severe thunderstorm warnings. Gulf-facing beaches from Galveston to Port Aransas are also under a high risk for life-threatening rip currents. The NWS urges swimmers to stay near lifeguards and avoid jetties or piers.

Drivers should expect slick roads during the evening commute and delay non-essential travel. Keep devices charged in case of power outages, and monitor NOAA weather radio or local alerts.

Severe weather and rip current threats are expected to taper off after 10 p.m., but more storms are possible this weekend.
