Tyler, Texas – Severe thunderstorms are expected to hit northeast Texas Tuesday afternoon through the overnight hours, with the highest risk stretching from Tyler to Texarkana. Residents should prepare for damaging wind gusts over 60 mph, large hail, and the possibility of scattered tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a Level 3 out of 5 severe risk is in effect for northwestern portions of the Four State Region. The most dangerous storms are forecast along and west of a line from Tyler to Texarkana, especially during late evening as instability increases.

Cities at greatest risk include Longview, Mount Pleasant, and New Boston, where downed trees and power outages are possible. Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 259 could see hazardous driving conditions due to strong wind gusts and blinding rain. Emergency managers are urging residents to secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and have a reliable way to receive warnings overnight.

This is the region’s second severe storm event in less than a week, heightening concerns about flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Severe weather threats remain through early Wednesday morning, and additional watches or warnings may be issued as storms evolve. Stay tuned to local alerts and avoid non-essential travel in affected areas.
