Corpus Christi, Texas – Severe storms are expected to slam South Texas Friday night into early Saturday, bringing damaging winds and a heightened risk of flash flooding across the region, including Corpus Christi and surrounding communities.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe thunderstorms is in place through Friday night, with the main threats being wind gusts exceeding 60 mph and isolated large hail. In addition, the Weather Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 4) for excessive rainfall, with a 15% or greater chance of flash flooding, especially in low-lying and urban areas.

Cities under the threat include Rockport, Kingsville, Alice, and Refugio. Rainfall rates could overwhelm drainage systems, particularly near Highway 77 and coastal roads. Residents should avoid driving through flooded streets and keep emergency alerts enabled. Power outages and tree damage are possible due to strong wind gusts.

This system will push through the region overnight, with the heaviest rainfall expected between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. Saturday. Local emergency managers recommend charging devices, securing outdoor items, and avoiding travel during peak storm hours.

Severe weather alerts remain active through Saturday morning, with additional watches or warnings possible overnight.
