Waco, Texas – Strong storms are likely across Central Texas through 10 p.m. Thursday, with the potential for large hail and damaging winds threatening afternoon and evening plans from Killeen to Palestine.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, isolated severe thunderstorms are expected between 2 and 10 p.m., with the highest risk focused on cities like Waco, Killeen, and Palestine. Afternoon highs in the upper 80s and low 90s will fuel storm development, and while tornado risk remains low, damaging gusts and quarter-sized hail are possible.

Drivers along I-35 and U.S. Highway 190 should prepare for sudden downpours and strong winds, especially during the evening commute. Temperatures are expected to reach 93°F in Killeen and 87°F in Waco, creating unstable conditions favorable for storm intensification.

Residents are urged to charge mobile devices, stay updated through weather alerts, and avoid travel during storm periods. If warnings are issued, take shelter immediately and never attempt to drive through flooded roadways.

This round of storms sets the stage for more severe weather Friday as a cold front moves through North Texas. Additional watches may be issued early Friday morning.
