Amarillo, TX – Snowfall across the Texas Panhandle Saturday could create hazardous travel conditions on major roadways, including Interstate 40 and U.S. 287. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through midnight as snow showers and freezing temperatures grip the region.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Amarillo, light snow began early Saturday and is expected to taper off by evening. Localized areas such as Vega, Hereford, and Amarillo may see up to 1.5 inches of snow accumulation, with slick roads and reduced visibility likely throughout the day. Wind chill values will range from 13 to 18 degrees, making outdoor exposure dangerous for extended periods.
Conditions are expected to clear overnight, but temperatures will plummet to the low 20s. Residents should prepare for icy patches on untreated surfaces Sunday morning.
Looking ahead, Sunday brings partly cloudy skies with a high of 27°F and brisk northerly winds at 10–15 mph. Cold weather persists into Monday, with wind chills dropping near zero. By Tuesday, the region will see sunny conditions and a slight warm-up to 37°F.
Drivers are urged to exercise caution and allow extra time for travel. Stay updated on weather changes and road conditions by monitoring local advisories.
