Lubbock, TX – The Texas Panhandle is experiencing record-breaking warmth, with highs reaching the mid-80s in Lubbock and surrounding areas. The unseasonably warm weather, combined with dry air and gusty winds, has prompted a Red Flag Warning for fire danger through 6 p.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lubbock, southwest winds up to 25 mph, gusting to 35 mph, will increase the risk of wildfires, especially in areas with dry grass and brush. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and be cautious with anything that could spark a fire.

Tonight, temperatures will remain warmer than average, with lows in the mid-40s. The weekend forecast calls for continued above-normal highs, reaching the upper 70s to mid-80s, with breezy conditions persisting into Sunday.

Looking ahead, a cold front is expected early next week, bringing cooler temperatures and a chance for precipitation. Stay updated with road conditions and fire safety alerts, especially along I-27 and US-84, where visibility and travel may be impacted by wind-driven dust.
