Dalhart, Texas – Residents in the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles should prepare for a chilly start to the week as a frost advisory takes effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. CDT Monday, potentially damaging unprotected plants and crops.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, temperatures could dip as low as 34°F early Monday across Dallam, Sherman, Hartley, and Moore counties in Texas, as well as Cimarron and Texas counties in the Oklahoma Panhandle. Frost formation is likely in low-lying and rural areas, especially where winds are light and skies clear overnight.

Cities including Dalhart, Dumas, Stratford, Boise City, and Guymon are all within the advisory zone. Gardeners and farmers are urged to cover or bring inside any tender vegetation to prevent damage. Even a light frost can kill young plants or newly sprouted crops.

This marks one of the latest frost events of the season for the region, following a stretch of warmer spring temperatures. Officials recommend checking vehicle windshields and outdoor surfaces for frost during early morning commutes.

The advisory expires at 9 a.m. Monday, but additional cold weather alerts could follow if temperatures stay below seasonal norms this week.
