Amarillo, Texas – Heavy rainfall across the Texas Panhandle has drenched cities like Amarillo, Hereford, and Canyon, leading to renewed flooding concerns as more storms approach this week.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, some areas have recorded up to 5 inches of rain over the past seven days, with Hereford seeing totals near 4.31 inches and Canyon topping 5 inches. Lighter amounts, under an inch, were observed in northern parts of the Panhandle, including Guymon and Boise City. Officials warn that additional rain could cause localized street flooding, especially in areas that are already saturated.

Cities such as Amarillo (2.51 inches) and Dumas (0.25 inches) are bracing for more thunderstorms, potentially leading to flash flood conditions on smaller roads and low-lying areas. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways, while residents should prepare by clearing storm drains and securing outdoor belongings. Power outages and temporary school delays are possible if the rain intensifies.

Flood watches may expand across the region as the week progresses. More updates are expected from the National Weather Service if rainfall rates increase or if flash flooding becomes imminent.
