Amarillo, Texas – Damaging winds, large hail, and flash flooding are expected to hammer the Texas Panhandle again Friday night, with storms intensifying after 9 p.m. and continuing into early Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, severe storms could bring wind gusts up to 70 mph, localized rainfall totals between 2 to 4 inches per hour, and an increased chance for tornadoes—especially in northeastern counties such as Perryton, Canadian, and Beaver. A Level 3 out of 5 storm risk is in place for areas including Dumas, Borger, and Guymon.

By late afternoon, storm chances climb rapidly across the entire region. Flash flood risk is highest from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday in the northeast Panhandle, where rainfall may exceed 2-4 inches. Local officials urge residents to stay weather-aware, charge devices, and avoid driving on flooded roads overnight.

Multi-day risks continue into the weekend, with more severe storms possible Saturday and Sunday, especially in western Oklahoma and most of the Texas Panhandle. Monday’s forecast remains uncertain but could extend the threat.

Warnings remain in effect tonight, and further advisories may be issued through the weekend.
