Amarillo, Texas – After a calm and sunny weekend, parts of the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles are headed for a summerlike surge, with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s starting Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, highs will reach the mid-80s in Amarillo and Borger by Monday afternoon, then push into the 90s on Tuesday and Wednesday. Dumas, Pampa and Guymon are also on track for back-to-back 90-degree days, with peak heat expected between noon and 6 p.m. both days.

By Tuesday, the region will see widespread highs of 88–92°F, bringing elevated fire weather risk and increased demand on cooling systems. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, and ensure pets and vulnerable populations remain cool.

No storms or rain are expected, but the prolonged dry stretch could raise wildfire concerns, especially in grassland areas near Dalhart and Clarendon. The warmup follows a milder-than-usual start to May, with highs near 70 just days earlier.

Temperatures will remain above average through at least Wednesday, and additional heat advisories may be issued if conditions intensify.
