Amarillo, TX – A warm and sunny start to the week in the Texas Panhandle will quickly give way to colder conditions by midweek. Residents can expect highs near 70 degrees Monday before a cold front brings cooler temperatures and freezing nighttime lows later in the week.
According to the National Weather Service, Amarillo will see mostly sunny skies Monday, with southwest winds reaching up to 15 mph and gusts near 25 mph. Overnight lows will drop to the mid-30s, but conditions will worsen midweek as daytime highs dip to the low 50s, and nighttime temperatures fall near or below freezing. Wind chills could make temperatures feel even colder, particularly on Wednesday morning.
The Texas Panhandle will experience clear but increasingly brisk weather through Wednesday, with gusty winds continuing. Tuesday will remain partly sunny with highs near 65 degrees, but the low overnight could reach as cold as 30 degrees. Wind chills will be a concern as wind speeds increase from the northwest overnight.
For midweek, Wednesday’s high will struggle to reach 50 degrees, signaling a shift to more seasonal weather. Winds will make outdoor conditions feel even chillier, so residents are advised to dress in layers and avoid extended exposure to the cold, particularly during early mornings and late nights.
Looking ahead, Thursday and Friday will see a slight warming trend, with highs returning to the low 60s under mostly sunny skies. However, freezing nighttime temperatures are expected to persist.
Drivers in Amarillo and surrounding areas should exercise caution early in the mornings when temperatures are lowest, as any moisture on roadways could create icy spots. Residents are encouraged to prepare for colder days ahead by winterizing vehicles and homes.
