Amarillo, Texas – Large hail up to 1.25 inches in diameter and 60 mph wind gusts could sweep across the Texas Panhandle Wednesday afternoon as a round of low-end severe thunderstorms develops.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, the storms are expected to form between the afternoon and evening hours, with areas from Dalhart and Perryton down through Amarillo and Clarendon under a marginal risk level (Level 1 of 5). While the primary hazards are hail and damaging winds, forecasters caution that an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Cities like Vega, Borger, Canadian, and Wellington should prepare for quick-moving storms capable of producing half-dollar-sized hail. Motorists are urged to secure vehicles under cover, while residents should stay indoors and avoid travel during high wind bursts.

Though the severe threat is considered low, the potential for property damage and localized power outages exists. Keep mobile devices charged and stay updated through trusted weather alerts.

Severe weather watches may be issued if conditions intensify. Residents are advised to monitor updates through Wednesday evening as storms develop across the region.
