Amarillo, Texas – Rounds of heavy rain could lead to flooding across the Texas Panhandle through Tuesday evening, threatening roads, low-lying neighborhoods, and rural creek beds from Amarillo to Clarendon.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, a Flood Watch remains in effect for 26 counties across the region—including Potter, Randall, Oldham, Deaf Smith, and Palo Duro Canyon—until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Excessive runoff may cause rapid rises in rivers, creeks, and urban drainage systems, especially in flood-prone or poorly drained areas.
Cities like Canyon, Hereford, Pampa, and Shamrock are expected to receive repeated rounds of rainfall, increasing the risk of flash flooding on smaller roads and in rural low-water crossings. Palo Duro Canyon State Park could see dangerous creek overflows, while city streets in Amarillo may experience water pooling during peak downpours.
Residents should avoid driving across flooded roads, charge electronic devices, and secure any outdoor belongings. Emergency officials also urge those in flood-prone zones to prepare for possible evacuation or rising water.
More rainfall is expected through Tuesday evening, and forecasters warn that localized Flood Warnings may follow. Stay tuned to local alerts and NWS updates for the latest conditions.
