Texas Panhandle Faces Severe Thunderstorm Threat and High Winds

Amarillo, TX – High temperatures, strong winds, and possible thunderstorms are forecast for Amarillo and the surrounding Panhandle region today. Temperatures are expected to be warmer than normal for mid-September, reaching up to 95°F in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, winds from the south will range from 15 to 25 mph, with gusts between 25 and 35 mph. Later today, thunderstorms are possible, especially in the western Panhandle. The chance for severe weather includes quarter-sized hail, wind gusts up to 70 mph, and lightning. The storms are most likely to develop between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Severe weather threats may continue into the night, moving eastward. Amarillo could see rainfall in the evening, with better chances expected in the western areas. Residents are urged to stay alert and secure outdoor objects due to the wind gusts.
