Amarillo, TX – Temperatures in the Texas Panhandle are plummeting, with wind chills dropping below zero early Monday morning. Residents are urged to bundle up and limit outdoor exposure, as frostbite risk increases in these bitter conditions. Highs will struggle to reach the 40s today, while temperatures could fall into the teens overnight.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Amarillo, wind chill values will range from -7°F in Gruver to 2°F near Clarendon. This cold pattern continues through midweek, with a chance of snow developing Tuesday afternoon. Light flurries are possible, but some areas in the western Panhandle may see accumulating snowfall, potentially complicating travel on major routes like I-40.

By Wednesday, conditions will slightly improve with highs in the mid-30s under mostly sunny skies, though nighttime temperatures will stay below 20°F. A secondary system later in the week could bring more snow to the region by Thursday night.

For those commuting or traveling, the NWS advises wearing layers, covering exposed skin, and carrying an emergency kit in your vehicle. Staying indoors as much as possible is also recommended during the coldest periods of the day.

Looking ahead, the weekend promises milder conditions, with sunny skies and highs in the upper 40s to low 50s.

Keep an eye on weather updates and prepare for potential delays if snow impacts your area. Stay informed with the latest forecasts to plan your week safely.
